Born in the Deep South, Judee Brooks was deeply influenced by her Birmingham, AL roots. Her professional journey took an electic path beginning with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Emory University. Having lived from coast to coast, she combined careers in the fashion industry, retail and real estate with opportunities for artistic growth and development before calling St Simons Island her forever home. Her resume includes buyer for I.Magnin in San Francisco and buyer for Rich's in Atlanta, marina owner/operator in Topsail Beach, NC, Realtor, and owner of an antique mall in FL! Throughout these experiences and locations and being well Versed in watercolor, oils and acrylics, Judee participated in a wide variety of art workshops. Some of her favorites include Live model drawing at the De Young museum in San Francisco and at the University of Alabama, Figure drawing workshop with Stockbridge Cable Spence in St. Augustine, FL. En Plein Air workshop with Joe Taylor, Cummer Museum, Portrait workshops of Ann Manry Kenyon. Workshops at Gail Strickley's Southern Art Studio, En Plein Air at Hilton Head with Susan Sarback, and studying with her all-time favorite gifted watercolor expert, Hercel Stallard. He was an Awesome mentor. Judee has participated in shows in NC, FL, GA and CA. Her work graces private and corporate collections throughout the United States. Currently, Judee's work can be seen at the Golden Isles WelcomeCenter and at Glynn Visual Arts by the airport in St Simons as well as the Goodyear Cottage on Jekyll Island. Her work can also be seen on-line and in private showings at her studio. Brooks is also an actress ( frequently appearing in Island Players productions) and she enjoys duplicate bridge, trivia, dancing and beach combing with her beloved pups, Wilson and Gizmo. She is also an active member of her church Holy Nativity Episcopal church on
Mallery Street. |
